Hi. I recently got a 500gb hdd external hard disk. I formatted it to be used on my mac. Today, I transferred a few movies from my mac into it and plugged it to my sister's windows laptop. It was detectable for a while and she was watching her movie. 20mins later, it suddenly stopped and became undetectable by her laptop and even my mac. It still spins but doesn't show light anymore

I'm confused. What do I do?

Solution
If the external USB drive is no longer able to be enumerated with either Windows or Mac OSX (Disk Management, and Disk Utility), then in all likelihood the drive or the internal SATA to USB controller (inside the plastic external drive shell) failed if this was an abrupt loss of the drive while it was in use. It could also be that the file system itself got corrupted, and as such the volume can no longer be mounted unless repaired.

what brand is the hard disk? And was the hard disk unplugged or moved while it was plugged into your sisters laptop? It is also possible that the hard disk came out faulty.

Thanks everyone.
The brand of the hard disk is WD utility.
It's not visible even in terminal or disk utility
The hard disk wasn't moved while plugged to my sister's laptop.

It suddenly became visible for about an hour 2 days ago and went invisible again

Please how can I repair it
