I just upgraded from a 120gb ssd to a 500 gb ssd. I am currently cloning the old ssd to the new SSD. I want to clear all the data off the 120gb ssd after to have additional storage.

When I cloned the 120gb to the 500gb SSD i was told the destination SSD would lose all of its data. But it was empty so that doesn't matter. My question is, could I clone an empty 10gb hdd i have laying around to the 120gb ssd, thus I would "Lose all current data" but not add any new data, thus having a fresh ssd.

Would that work? Thanks

Of course, you test the validity of your cloning operation first.
Power off
Disconnect the 120GB drive.
Power up....does it boot properly?
If so, then just delete all the partitions on it.
