I am building a new el cheapo gaming machine.
Motherboard is MSI B350M Pro-VD Plus.
CPU is Ryzen 3 2200G
Memory - 2x4gig of DDR4-2400
Sata6 ssd
Hitachi hd
Operating system - Win7Pro 64 bit
possible additional operating system - Sparky LInux

I am curious about if I install a NVMe card into the PCIe x 16 slot - can I use that for increased video memory or system cache or both or neither? Can you use it for the swap file?

I will use the onboard Vega graphics. I understand you can do many things with NVMe memory cards in the newest boards. My board only has the video card slot and it is open.

Like I said - el cheapo machine has semi obsolete board. Thanks

Solution
No. Can't use any kind of SSD to act as RAM. A pagefile yes, but not ram.

Now Optane can be used for RAM, but its not really worth it, and only works on the latest intel boards.

Well I will not buy an NVMe stick now. I will also have to look into getting Windows 10 so I can boot. Is Win 10 Home good enough or does Pro contain features I might want?

You CAN still get windows 7 to boot if you were to properly slimpstream the USB 3.0 drivers into it. I have a Windows 7 USB stick that I had slipped stream some drivers using a tool from some Asus Z170 board as it still supported 7.

Once it is installed, and you have a network driver installed (using any other drives as basic drivers are fine) you can then still get the free upgrade to windows 7 saving you 100 bucks but may have to pull a few hairs out to get 7 to boot properly lol
