16Gb Ram - Bios shows only 8Gb Asus P8Z77-V Pro mobo

Hi All,

I installed ram in my computer a while back and all ran fine, however lately it shows only 8 of the16gb ram in bios?

I followed numerous threads and did all the usual, check each stick, ran memtest, tried various combinations (A:B channels), re-seated the CPU (after checking for bent pins), ensured the cooler wasn't overtight bending the mobo, etc etc but I still can only see 8gb.

I attach the various readouts which shows the ram installed and timings and it's the timings that I am wondering about? I am clueless on changing settings but I believe they should work albeit at the lowest setting, indeed they were working fine until recently ?

Can anyone make any suggestions, other than replace the ram so they all match, unless this is the only solution?

If I'm reading that correctly, you have 2x4GB, single rank rated for up to 1864MHz and 2x4GB, dual rank rated for up to 1600MHz.

Both kits are CL9 for 1333MHz.

The varying timings, speeds and single vs dual rank may well be the issue.

For "mixing and matching" (ie not sold in a single, retail kit) your best chances of success are as near to identical as possible.
Timings, speeds, CL, rank and sometimes even brand.

The only thing those two kits really have in common is being able to support the JEDEC standard 1333MHz and the fact they're from Corsair.

You may need to loosen timings, or give them a slight voltage bump to have them get compatible (if at all possible), but that's a trial & error situation. Not a whole lot I can give you for a definitive answer.

Barty1884,

Thank you for such a quick response. I'm curious, you say that I have 2x4gb single rank and 2x4gb dual rank, can you perhaps clarify what that means? What surprises me is I am sure the bios originally showed 16gb when first installed and that the mobo/bios fixed the memory performance to the lowest common stable operation. I'm not sure how or even if the timing can be manually changed on my system so it sounds like it would be better to buy two additional sticks to match the 1864MHz pair.

thanks
