Upgrading my CPU - Need some thoughts

Hello all!

I currently have an Intel Core i5-6600 processor and for the last 2 and a bit years it has served me well and has run most games pretty good, performance wise. But recently when playing games it feels like the i5-6600 is just not giving the performance I enjoy when playing games. So now I am currently looking at upgrading it. So do you guys have any thoughts on a CPU? I was looking at the Intel Core if-8400 https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16819117824 but I thought I read somewhere that Coffe Lake Processors need a particular kind of Mother Board or something along those lines. (Probably misread something). Also, regarding price, a CPU under the 350.00 Canadian dollar mark would be optimal.

Thanks for the help and suggestions

Also here is my system:
CPU:Intel Core i5 6600 @ 3.30GHZ
RAM:16.0GB Dual-Channel (DDR4)
Mother Board: MSI H110M PRO-D (MS-7996)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
Case: Thermaltake Core X31
Power Supply: EVGA 500 W1
CPU cooler: Corsair Hydro Series Cooling H75

Question from Joshua_67 : "What CPU would be good to replace an intel i5-6600"

The 8400 and a B360 board should provide a noticeable boost, but, the GTX1060 will be saturated not too far above the i5-6600's level as far as average framerates go, but, minimums (1% lows) should jump noticeably with faster cpu with more threads...(i.e., any noticeable slowdowns or hitches that are cpu-related should be eliminated)

It won't work with the Coffee Lake processors as they are 8th generation.

Your MB will support 6th generation i3/i5/i7s.

I might look at an i7-6700 or i7-6700k.

Are the Coffee Lake processors worth it? Compared to the generations I can get with my system?

Would this work https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157796&ignorebbr=1 Also, on the topic of MOBO, what would be the difference between this one and say this one https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157790&ignorebbr=1

Comparison i5 8400 and stock i7 7700k they pretty much say the same thing.

A stock i7 7700k and i5 8400 are so close in gaming it's hard to justify the MB upgrade for the budget minded. Moving to a i5 8400 and new motherboard would mean being able to buy a i7 8700k and overclock down the line even though Intel has a new line coming out later this year with a new chipset that will replace it "Which means a new motherboard". So the question is why spend the extra cash on a new motherboard now when you can just grab a i7 7700k and get pretty much the same performance until the next chipset is released in less than a year?
