graphics driver update crashes windows (7 and 10) at startup (AMD and Nvidia)

Hey everyone,

Been having this issue and cannot find a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So my current specs are:

Windows 7 64bit

Core i7-3770k

Gigabyte B75M-D3H Rev 1.0 (bios F15)

AMD Radeon 7870

16gb DDR3 memory

Basically a year ago I tried to update to Win10, but after the installation there would be a blue screen saying "there was an error :("

I looked for solutions, but couldn't find any so I reverted to Win7 as I didn't need 10.

A while ago, I tried to install the latest drivers for my 7870, but found that whatever latest approved driver or even previous versions I tried to install, my computer would crash at the bootup (windows loading) screen, forcing me to boot in safe mode and uninstall that driver. So i quit that as well.

Recently I decided to upgrade my video card (forgetting about past issues and assuming it was and AMD issue), so I bought a GTX 1060 MSI. I had some issues upgrading which I was able to resolve by updating my bios for the motherboard to F15 from F4 (latest version on website).

After getting into Win7, I installed nvidia drivers using their driver utility only to find that I was getting the SAME bootup crash issue after the driver install! I even tried to find a slightly older driver version but same issue.

So as a final attempt, I tried to update to Win10 hoping for a fix, but same issue, startup menu crash on repeat, so I reverted to Win7 for now.

I would just not update my drivers, but unfortunately in the current state my main monitor (HDMI) is not being recognized as I believe I need drivers installed. I am using my secondary DVI input monitor for now.

Is there any kind of solution? Really am at the end of my road here. Thank you so much.
