New mobo and SSD old HDD, moving OS

My goal is to move my windows OS to an SSD and keep my files/games/pics/etc on my HDD. I read up about this on several forums and it has been quite confusing. What I gather is that I should transfer my OS to the SSD, but to do that I need to do a clean install (from what I understand: wipe the HDD of everything but the OS) then clone it using a 3rd party app. From there I can install it to the new mobo.

Question 1: how do I ensure all my old data can be restored from the backup? I used easeUS to create a backup on an external. So after I install win10 on the new mobo can I just go in and pull the stored data from the backup? Also, is there an easy way to map this data back to the HDD folder locations they were at previously?

Question 2: will there be a conflict of duplicate OS's since I will have one on my ssd and one on my hdd?

I might have more questions, but for now that's all I have.

Solution

Nope. You got it wrong.
New motherboard requires clean install. No cloning necessary. Also no backup necessary since you install on new SSD.

1st disconnect HDD;
connect SSD and install windows;
connect HDD and reorganize your data files.

Old windows OS files are located in:
(those you'll want to remove to recover free space)
  • \Program Files
    \Program Files (x86)
    \Program Data
    \Windows
