Specs at bottom. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :peur:

SHORT VERSION: I’m having a persistent BSOD event and am at my wit’s end (short trip) trying to fix it. Plugging anything into the rear USB port crashes my system so hard that it won’t load to windows, safe mode, or complete a startup repair without BSODing with a “System Thread Exception Not Handled”. At the moment, I think it may be the rear 3.1 slots.

LONG VERSION: Windows 10 came out with 1709 and it would BSOD after restart with a “System Thread Exception Not Handled” error while “configuring the update”, roll back to a restore point, force the update again (thanks Microsoft) and the process would repeat ad infinitum. I loaded an image and was able to get it up to 1803. However, I go to plug in the USB extension and hubs for my peripherals into the rear slot it had been before, and it BSOD’d with a “System Thread Exception Not Handled” and wouldn’t load to windows, safe mode, or complete a startup repair without doing the same.

I thought it was my keyboard because I unplugged everything but the keyboard from the USB extension and hub and it still crashed as described above. But then, I loaded the image, and even unplugged the keyboard, and it still crashed when I plugged in ONLY the USB extension and hub, and then after another image load, crashed with ONLY THE USB EXTENSION!

The USB extension had a little box housing around the female end so I wondered if maybe there’s still some kind of driver thing on it causing the crashes so I bought a brand new 3.0 extension and 3.0 hub. It didn’t crash when I plugged in the cable extension, but crashed when I plugged in the new 3.0 hub!

On every image load, I’m able to plug in my joystick and mouse, as normal, to their “assigned” USB 2.0 slot on the top of the case without it crashing. On the latest image load, I plugged in the extension and the hub on a rear 3.0 port and it didn’t crash... so I unplugged and tried it in the rear 3.1 port and it crashed. No idea what’s going on here, but am pretty disappointed as this is (was) a very expensive system.

Thanks very much in advance.
