Hello! I recently just came about this old calculator/ruler in one of my desks and found out the calculator part of it wasn't functioning. (wasn't a big surprise) So I came up with the idea of replacing the old alkaline battery with a small slim rechargeable one and adding a micro-USB port to charge it. My question is would this project be possible or even cheap? I don't have any experience with wiring/soldering and don't even know the brand of the product. Any professional suggestion would be appreciated!

*Extra* Another idea I came up with was to add one of those solar panel type of things that are common among many calculators that would power the calculator and even charge the battery.

Here are some reference images to what the item looks like:
Dimensions:
-Width: 2 1/16 Inches
-Length: 10 Inches
Height: 2/8 Inches

*Update* The calculator requires a voltage of 1.5V as I researched the calculator's old battery.

Solution
Unless you want to make your ruler-calculator an 3/4" thick, I see no way of replacing coin-size battery with rechargeable battery, charging circuit, and USB connector for charging. I don't see any place where you can mount a solar cell either.

YOu can see whether you can extend the bottom plate of the ruler, using it as a base to build enclosure for additional stuff. This way, ruler part can still be used, with a wire coming out of the short side of the ruler toward this enclosure.
