I'm not a computer builder. One year ago, I built my first gaming computer and it seemed to work but it was very glitchy with lot's of freezing and restarts. When I thought about it, I realized I never used any standoffs for the motherboard. I decided to rebuild the computer with a new motherboard just to be safe. When the build was complete, I tried to start it but it would turn on then immediately off. If I unplugged the CPU power cable, it would start and stay on. I then went on a swapping mission to find the culprit. I replaced the CPU, the PSU and the motherboard with no success. Last night out of frustration, I rebuilt the box with the old motherboard and everything worked! My fear is that I will still have a glitchy computer even though I am now using the proper standoffs.
Here's my current parts list:
ASUS Maximus IX Code LGA 1151 (old board)
Intel i7 7700
Corsair CW-9060025-WW Hydro Series, H100i v2
4x Corsair DOMINATOR Platinum 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200 (PC4-25600) C16 for Intel 100
Corsair HXi Series, HX1000i PSU
nVidia Titan XP
The new boards were ASUS Maximus X Code LGA 1151
Did I do something wrong with the new boards? They didn't even work when I bread boarded them with nothing except the CPU and 2 memory sticks. How can I be sure to get a proper working new motherboard (in case my old one is glitchy)?
**UPDATE: I figured it out. Turns out the Maximus X isn't compatible with the i7 7700 CPU. Oh well.... at least my faith in ASUS is restored!!
Thanks!
