I have an ASUS MAXIMUS VIII HERO motherboard with 16 GB (2x8) DDR4 CORSAIR Vengeance LPX.

Built the computer myself. Everything worked fine for a month. One day I left my PC on sleep and when I came back the PC was running but screen went black. Then I rebooted and got to the desktop and then it froze. Rebooted multiple times, same result. At one point it froze even in the BIOS. I then noticed the Q Codes showing CC then 55. When I have the two sticks on B1 and B2, I get the Q Code 49.

What I noticed is my PC will only boot up if i have one memory stick in the B1 slot. I use to have them on A2 and B2 which obviously no longer works. A1 is inaccessible due to my build and any other combination doesn't work.

What could this be?

Can we get full system specs? That may be useful to know. Also, try running both sticks, one at a time to make sure one isn't bad.

Just tried switching the sticks and it does seem like one is bad. Code 49 shows up again. Tried the other stick on any other slot and it works. You say it's fried?

sounds like that stick is bad then, you may be able to RMA the kit if it's still under a warranty.
