Hello helpful users on the forum :)

I have a problem with my PC as indicated in the title.

first a list of my PC specs:
Motherboard: Asus maximus vii hero
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k, base clock
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080ti msi gaminx X11G, factory overclocked
RAM: 2x Corsair CMY16GX3M2C1600C9, the RAM came as a pair for dual channel use.
Drive with OS installed: Samsung SSD 840 PRO 265GB
PSU: Corsair RM 750W
BIOS version 3201 (Newest version besides beta version)

After i have replaced som old faulty ram with new Corsair ram, i have gotten a booting problem. My problem is, that every time i start my PC it won't POST. The PC will turn on, fan spinning and my monitor gets a on signal and starts displaying the input port, however nothing else will happen, not even after 2 hours.
The motherboard will get stuck at either error code D7 or 98. Referring to the motherboard manual, the error codes indicates the following:
Code D7: No console input device are found.
Code 98: Console imput devices connect.
I can get the PC to boot normally if i either press the reset button, or pres the reset CMOS button. This works every time.

I have discovered that if i only have one ram stick installed, the PC will boot normally every time without fault.

I have done some testing and troubleshooting before posting on this forum. I have done and observed the following:

Replaced the CMOS battery without any effect.
Running a Windows Memory Diagnostic test did not yield any errors in the memory.
I have tested that with a single stick, the PC will boot normally. I have tested all four slots with both sticks Individualy. A total of 8 tests.
Tested every configuration of the two ram sticks, and could not get the PC to boot normally.
XMP profile is activated, with 1.35V and 1600MHz. I have also tested at 1333Hz and 1.5V with no effect.
I have pulled everything out of my pc and booted with only CPU, Motherboard, RAM, 1 monitor connected and no USB devices. and i still can't get into the BIOS with any dual channel configuration without resetting.
I have noticed that in the menu GPU.DIMM.POST in the BIOS settings, that it lists my RAM as being 1333MHz running at 1600MHz speed. My old RAM which broke was also 1600MHz and had a nominal voltage of 1.5V.
I have updated my BIOS to the newest version without any effect.

I feel that i have exhausted most troubleshooting methods, and therefore i'm writing this post.
My instinct is telling me that it might be a problem with the XMP settings, however i can't tell what is wrong with them.

Besides the booting problem, the RAM works perfectly and provides 16GB in total. That leads me to conclude, that it's not a problem with the CPU or Motherboard connections.

Thanks for the answers beforehand :)

A lot of things in PC trouble shooting may lead to one issue but my be another one. I would try pulling out the CPU and checking for bent pins, if some are bent that may be causing the memory to not work properly.

Hello JacobeeGames

I have done what you asked and have pulled my CPU out and checked for bent pins. The motherboard does not have any bent pins and works perfectly.
I have to mention that when the PC is running the 16 GB works correctly, It's only during startup i have to reset the system. This as mentioned in my original post, leads me to believe that the connection from my CPU and the RAM is working as intended.

Ok, its good nothing is bent as fixing those pins is extremely hard to do. Try and get into BIOS with both sticks in, I would make sure all the latency and timings of the memory are the same. I think this is an issue with the BIOS since it runs correctly after POST.

(Edit) I would try a BIOS update, if its fully updated try rolling back to a slightly earlier version that still works with your hardware.
