Is it better to leave my pc on 24/7 or turn it off at the end of the day if I would like to prolong the life of my pc for as long as possible? O have heard that the wear and tear of stopping and starting your pc frequently can accumulate and potentially reduce lifespan of components. What do you do?

Solution
Whatever you've heard of powering on/off a PC wearing components is false. What wears components out much faster is running them 24/7. If you've got no reason for the device to be on, turn it off.

My PC has been on 24/7 since I got it, which was about 4.5 years ago. The only thing to fail was the Corsair H100i but that is common, from research. (and they do have 5 year warranty)
I stream Plex and run World Community Grid 24/7.

Also just so you know, electronics don't run out while being "on" they run out as you said, by being turned on and off.
Like a lightbulb, if it is always on, it won't blow, if it is turned on and off, it will blow. This is very common amongst switch mode power supplies, especially in electronics like cable tv boxes, tv's etc.

I have many years of replacing these components. People always used to say, it was working fine, then they turned it off at the wall and it never came back on.

Is there a specific reason you (not OP) unselected my answer as solution?

Being on 24/7 is going to introduce more dust into the case, which may find itself a new home on the CPU/GPU heatsinks.

Capacitor fluid is also a thing.

Let's make two things perfectly clear.

1. Purposefully deselecting someone's already selected best answer with the intent to disrupt the thread will get you shown the door.

2. Increasingly hostile answers like some of the ones given in this thread will also get you shown the door.

Keep things civil and if I or anyone from the moderation team have to come in here again, this thread will be locked and bans will be handed out. Consider this your first and only warning. If you have any further problems please direct to PM and we can sort it out there.

2. Was asking why I was deselected a hostile answer? I don't feel at all like I was being hostile.
