I bought a new pc and I it is 400 meter away from where my router is. I want to have a connection like an Ethernet cable. I can't get an Ethernet cable to run through the wall because it is expensive. I found a power line adapter that is around 34€ and it is 1000mbps overline (I don't know what that means). Also I have an Ethernet plug in my room where the PC is located will it work without needing anything and just plugin the Ethernet cable?

Also I want the connection to be similar to an Ethernet cable if my PC was near the router.
I want it for gaming.
Thank you

Solution

I'd measure it more accurately first.
400 meters? thats a long distance, way beyond what ethernet can do. I dont know how well power line adapters would work, their range is 200-300meters, which is 100-200 meters less than what you are trying to do.

Ethernet has a range itself of 100m.

You can try powerline but it is no guarantee at that range. and needs to be on the same buildings power. Point to Point WiFi could work if there are no walls in the way, other than that fiberoptic cable is your best choice

To be 400meters away, is it in a different building? If so, you would probably have to setup a point-to-point wireless bridge between the two buildings. With a 5Ghz bridge, you could get 100Mbit+ throughput if you have a clear line of sight.
The network would be : router -> wireless bridge <<<<>>>>> wireless bridge -> switch -> devices.

First question is what sort of building are you in that the router is over a 1/4km away from your pc?
Power line adaptors probably won't work as you really need to be on the same fuse box as the router, and being in a building that size usually means you will be on a completely different circuit. The second problem with power line adaptors is the signal degradation over distance and you need decent mains cabling to have any hope of a decent signal that far from the router. The best bet would be several 5ghz wireless repeaters at staged intervals between the router and your pc.

But also the wall is not straight and it has a lot of corners and it has some pillars on the roof and they make more corners in the wall so I don't know should I buy a 15 or 20 meter cable and just hide if it is more that enough? Will there be a change in connection if it is 20meters?

Can you get any wires anywhere else that's closer and put wifi there?

Powerline may work for you. It's a gamble, make sure you have the option to return it.

@failboat should I try a 20 meters Ethernet cable and test how it fits and if it doesn't work out return it and buy a power line adapter?
