I have a Dell Inspiron 7000 with a 1050ti and of course the integrated IntelHD graphics card. All attempts to use Nvidia control panel to set the 1050ti to Globa settings fails.

All drivers are updated, disabling the IntelHD driver causes the PC to use some Windoews viewer, nothing I can figure out will allow the laptop to run the 1050ti as default.

This may be the cause for why no monitor or projector will run on this PC, which is very frustrating as this is why I bought it. I may have to junk this one and try another.

Your dedicated card is supposed to be used only while you are running demanding apps such as for example games.
The reason why to this is that dedicated graphic have much bigger power comsumption and hence it heats up your whole laptop.
Technology responsible for deciding which card should work is called Nvidia Optimus.

As far as i know there is no way to use dedicated GPU only and there are no benefits from this kind of solution.
But check in BIOS searching for a switch to disable integrated graphic.

The Intel video has to be enabled, it runs the outputs. It works with the nvidia in Optimus mode so that the nvidia card can be powered down when not needed to save battery life. The nvidia renders the screen and then the intel gets a copy of the frame buffer over PCI express to display the image.

Alright, I was hoping that my problem with all monitors/projectors failing to operate had something to do with one using Intel and the other using Nvidia.

Display 2 is constantly trying to run in 1024x768 and the monitor has a native resolution of 1920x1080. This laptop is the only PC I have that will not work with any monitor or projector I own. The screen continually resets every 5-10 seconds.

UPDATE: Its stemming from the HDMI port I think. I noticed while trying on another monitor (9th attempt another brand/size) that the laptop itself will start to flicker and reset with the HDMI cable connected, and no monitor.

It has something to do with the HDMI port and the cable not being specific HDMI-HDMI. Seems any conversion causes issue, I tried HDMI-DisplayPort, HDMI-DVI, HDMI-VGA, the VGA conversion causes flickering and screen resets without a monitor plugged on the other end. DisplyPort and DVI wont work at all.
