Striped Dynamic HDs can't be optimized under Win 10.

I have 2 hard drives of 1 tb each which I joined in a striped configuration (dynamic) under win 10 (1803 ver).

They are not RAID. Everything works fine except that I can't optimize them.

Win 10's Computer Management does not "see" them when I click defrag etc, although they show up in the main window of Computer Management and they show in File Explorer/Manager.

Is this how it's supposed to be? Am I missing something?

I am running on an ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard under Win 10 64bit with 32Gig RAM.

Many thanks in advance,
Peter

I don't understand. How do you have striped drives that aren't RAID? Striped is AID0, Mirrored is RAID1. I'm also not sure what optimize does. Looking at my own drives on Win7 I don't see any option for optimize. Is it a win10 thing? It's probably an error check/defrag thing?

I don't know Win 7 but in Win 10 you can join Hdrives - spanned or striped - and not under RAID. They work very well, except for that minor observations that they can't be optimized. Apparently, the info I'm receiving is that they can't be optimized like the basic formatted Hds.

Right.
Striped within Windows is mostly like a RAID 0.
The OS knows not to treat them as individual drives.

And I really hope you've manifested a good backup routine with this.

Triple back-up as a matter of fact. :) Thanks.
