i have a dell studio xps 1647. I did a bios update just to be updated. during the update the computer froze. so powered it down and it wont turn on anymore. no lights, no fan. not a backlit black screen. I have booted it before in this condition to a black screen with text. I dont remember what screen it was. but it was done by the 30 sec power button, no battery in and plugging it in to power supply. the catch was there was certain keys or a hey to press before and while pressing the power button to turn on. I cant remember so I can reflash the bios with a good file

It sounds (from your description) that you ended up with a corrupted the BIOS flash. If so, the only remedy is to replace the BIOS chip. Since that is a laptop, it probably is soldered-in, meaning you'll want to take it to a shop. Or contact Dell if it is under warranty.
