I have an p7h55-m Asus mothabord it’s and lga1156 socket cpu and it currently had a core i5 650, so later on I decided to buy the core i7 870 on amazon used, I’ve always bought used cpus and it always worked, but this one completely ruined my motherboard and it’s a huge nightmare for me. When I installed the core i7 onto my motherboard and checked everything to make sure it’s fine when I turned it on all the fans were spinning really fast, then oh I forgot to plug in the 4pin cpu power, so I turned it off and plugged it in, right after I turned it on, few seconds after one my mofsets whatever you call it, near my EATX plug went smoking so I shut it off. And tried the original cpu and thought it would work but now my Mobo is completely dead. I’ve been searching online and looking at peoples article to see what could’ve caused this, but I just couldn’t find one. All i can ask is that, is the core i7 too strong for my motherboard that it just smoked out of no where???

Specs
Asus cg5275 p7h55-m Mobo
Core i5 650 3.20ghz
Nvidia GTX 1050 gigabyte
Artic lp11 100 watt cpu cooler
Insignia psu 450 white 80plus white certified
One generic case fan

Update also forgot to say, on Asus support it said that the motherboard could support this cpu but I’m still wondering if it’s the core i7

Many said that could be the reason why but i dont know if it really is because i had it for a while and it powers up my gtx 1050 well, i am replacing the motherboard and the psu tho to make sure its an evga supernova g3 550 watt 80plus gold. but was the psu really the issue?
