I am currently running my OS on a 250GB Samsung 840 Pro. It is running on a Dual Xeon 2630 v3 procs. The mainboard is the Asus Z10PA-D8.

Can I boot Windows 10 from a Add-in-card that houses NVMe/Optane SSDs on this mainboard or do I need to update mainboard's BIOS firmware (if they have any) in order for it to detect and boot from such aic drives? Or it doesnt matter?

older mobos will not boot with nvme main drives without bios update to allow compatability

you can only use it as secondary storage if there is no bios update
