Hello guys,

I have a Asus ROG Maximux VIII Hero Alpha that I recently bought , I installed a i7-8700k in it and someone told me that I have the wrong motherboard and that's why my pc doesnt boot.
Now I wanted to send the motherboard back and noticed that the cpu socket pins look a bit off .
The motherboard still has waranty , it's just 5-6 days old .

Sadly, 1151 boards are not all the same, there are several different version numbers and they are not interchangeable; your friend is correct - a quick look at the Asus list shows the i7 7700K is the latest cpu supported.

As for the damage, you probably caused it by trying to use the 8700K; I am guessing that although it has the same number of pins, the pin layout is slightly different, the seller may not accept it back as the damage has been caused by you, and is not a manufacturing defect.
