I’m looking to build a new gaming/editing pc. My budget is around 1000 CAD. I’m trying to decide on a cpu and a graphics card. Up until a few days ago I thought the Ryzen 5 1600 was the best until I saw the i5 line up. Graphics wise I’m probably going with a 1060. Is there any difference between the Ryzen 5 1600/1600x and the i5 8400/8400k

Solution
The difference is clock speed vs logical cores. Ryaen has SMT while Coffeelake has better IPC. Basically, Intel is better in gaming and Ryzen is better in productivity. But they are both very close to each other on the secondary task as well. If you are planning to build a machine for long term, Ryzen 2600 should be a good choice. Its very good in productivity and pretty close to 8400 in gaming as well...
