So i have a high end old pc and want to get it an ssd only for the OS i found out a cheap M.2 in the shop near(Kingston M.2 SSD UV500 / 120GB [SUV500M8/120G] ) so would it work on my Gigabyte GA-EP43T-UD3L as i have never been into the ssd market before this is my first time.
The board got the Pci ports but would it work from ur experience.

and is this one good enough and fast vs WD green sata 3 ssd?

Thanks a lot for reading.

Solution

1. That board has no native m.2 support, either SATA or NVMe
2. You can't boot from an m.2 drive in a PCIe slot.
3. The WD Green SSD is one of the slower SSDs on the market

4. Get a regular 2.5" SATA III SSD. 250GB or larger. Disregard the whole m.2 concept.

Highly unlikely you could make a PCI drive the boot drive on a board that old. Safer route would to get a SATA SSD instead.

In terms of performance those drives are essentially the same. Both are SATA III drives, the Kingston is just using the M.2 connector. For an actually faster SSD you want a NVMe drive. Though in terms of real world performance its hard for a user to tell the difference between SATA and NVMe speed.
