Hi Guys,

I am building my first PC for mainly video editing and a bit of gaming. The build below is what I have come up with. Do you think it will work well and do you have any improvements I could make? I thought maybe the combination of an i7 8700k and a GTX 1060 6gb might bottle neck? But thought it would be better to spend more on a processor and maybe in the future I can upgrade my GPU. Thanks for your help :)

CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700 3.2GHz 6-Core
CPU Cooler: Deepcool - GAMMAXX 400 74.3 CFM
Motherboard: Gigabyte - Z370P D3 ATX LGA1151
Memory: Mushkin - Redline 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2666
1st Hard Drive: Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
2nd Hard Drive: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
GPU: MSI - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB GT OCV1
Case: NZXT - S340 (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower
Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX

If you are primarily video editing with gaming on the side, I'd recommend AMD's Ryzen lineup. They work amazingly with video editors, and perform great in gaming too. I use the Ryzen 7 1700X, but I'd recommend getting the 2700X (newer generation CPU = better). If your going to change to the Ryzen CPU, make sure you grab an X470 motherboard as the Z370 motherboard won't work with it (obviously).

If you are going to use Ryzen, preferably have the RAM speed at 3000Mhz or higher. Ryzen works better with higher frequency RAM.

Keep the GTX 1060. That is a great first-time build choice.

No other suggestions. I think you have a great plan for your first time build!

Good luck!

If you were just going for gaming I would have said the 8700 is overpowered paired with a 1060GB and the GPU would definitely be a bottleneck, but as you're primarily doing video editing you should be fine. That said I would also recommend you give the Ryzen lineup a good look as that's usually better for multi-threaded applications, and generally offers better value for money. Check out the reviews of the Ryzen 2700 & 2700X and see how the benchmarks compare to the 8700.
