The Xbox One will already do in-game screen grabs and video capture. But I want to do a screen capture from a game menu instead of while the game is playing and use the capture for a backdrop for another purpose.

I have seen "game capture" devices on Amazon and so forth but they start around $50 bucks going all the way up to $300 and capture video. I don't need video capture. Just single screen captures. There should be some kind of device that has an HDMI splitter that would go in between the Xbox One and my TV that also has a USB connection to plug into a PC with software that connects to the device and will do a screen capture and save the image in JPG or BMP or PNG. Anyone get what I'm talking about? I just want to do screen captures of what's displayed on my TV from my Xbox One. Simple as that. And hopefully inexpensive as that.

They should make all modernTV's with simple screen grab utilities that output the image to a USB thumb drive. My current UHD TV has a USB port on it that I can put photos on and scroll through the photos with the built in image viewer that is incorporated into the TV software. If it only had a screen grab utility! Ahrrgg

Solution
With a Laptop or Desktop using Windows 10 and the xbox app you can do it for free, Just record or hit Print screen on the frame you want then edit.

I had to borrow my son's laptop running Windows 10, but I do confirm that the Xbox app in Windows 10 will stream video from an Xbox One whereby you can get a screenshot of anything you want. Including menu areas. Everything. The laptop becomes a monitor for the Xbox. And you can choose which resolution to stream in. From "Low" to "Very High". Excellent solution for I want to do.
