I am building a new gaming PC and I know little about memory. There are too many companies and choices. How do I pick one? My build is based on a Intel - Core i5-8400 2.8GHz 6-Core Processor and I plan to get 16 gig of memory if that helps. Budget is not much of an issue but I do not want to waste money on memory that is overkill.

Are there a few companies that have good reputations?

Do I need 2400? Any benefit to going higher?

Thanks!

Gaming wise with RAM & Intel it makes little difference to what speed your getting, 2133 to 2666 is what I'd pair with the 8400 however if, for example, 3000 is the cheapest then get it and the system will downclock the speed to match the motherboard. As for which company it really doesn't matter, most have lifetime warranties. The only thing you will want to do is get a dual channel kit (2x8gb) as buying separately can cause stability issues and kits have been tested to work together.
