Intel has stopped supporting driver updates for my chipset and I would like to know if this is something I should be concerned about. Gigabyte hasn't updated chipset drivers in over a year also which is my motherboard manufacturer.

Solution
in practice, not really. unless you are using it for commercial use.

there are two issue that i can think of right now:

if that if there is any new hardware or software that has compatibility issue, it won't be fixed. unless the other vendor is willing to fix it.
if there is any major security flaws or manufacturing flaws, that requires a driver update for workaround, it won't be fixed. it's expected that you replace your hardware after 5 years.

I thought they had been forced to drop that??

I was planning on a Ryzen system next year, but if I am forced to choose between Linux and Win10, it will be "piss off Microsoft".

(They'll get my Win7 PC when they prise it from my cold, dead hands).
