New memory, need some help with timings etc

Hi all,

my coworker just gave me some new RAM to put in my aging machine. Am running a Gigabyte mobo, GA-Z68XP-UD3P, and we've checked to see if it'll handle the amount (32GB) and freq (1866).

But so far it's not getting past the bios screen--and just hanging on the OS startup (WI 10). I was able to get it to boot up with just 2 sticks instead of 4. But rather than bad memory, I think it's just me not knowing how to set the timings and speed properly.

The new memory is G.SKILL Ares Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3

I've gone in and set the timings manually (10 cas lat, 10-11-10). And attempted to set the system multiplier (frequency?) to 1866--though this seems to stay at 1333 despite me changing it. The voltage at 1.5V already looks correct in the settings.

I would love some pointers. Even if just a good youtube tutorial. Thanks! LML

edit: okay one issue is that what newegg lists for timings and what's on the label is not the same--the label actually reads 10-11-10-30 --but I've since tried these timings as well, and still no luck.

Solution
increase frame buffer size to over 128MB (in this case 160+2 did not work, but 128+2 did the trick)

not sure how stable it is but so far so good. I'm running it at 1600mhz rather than 1866, and with other settings to auto and "turbo" disabled

@PuperHacker thanks, I did use the optimized and fail-safe defaults a couple different times. Is that what you mean? I'm not familiar with using CMOS

That is what I meant. Please remove the mobo's battery and place it back in after 15 minutes or so.

thanks again, unfortunately that did not work. I contacted gigabyte, they say it's "quite aggressive" for this board, what I am trying to install, despite the spec sheet showing support for both 1866mhz and 32GB LOL

thanks again, well I finally got it to work

gigabyte suggested increasing frame buffer size to (over) 128MB, and for the first time I was able to boot up with all 4 modules. Fingers crossed
