Cpu power connector on my ASUS 970 PRO GAMING AURA motherboard had melted while overclocking at 1.5v (maybe due to poor contact or very high voltage) .I am using ANTEC VP550 550 WATT .As a counter measure,I got the power socket on the motherboard replaced from another dead motherboard that was lying around.I also cut the psu power connector wire and replaced the 8pin cpu power connector plug from an old corsair 450 watt psu. So My question is what is the safe voltage fo 24/7 oc for an AMD FX 8350.MY cpu is stable at 4.6 ghz(1.5v). for 4.5ghz it needs around 1.4375v.(both tested with 30 min prime 95 small ftt test).O

most often the cause of melted connectors is a loose connection rather than high voltage.did you have a good solid connection?your not gaining much with the extra .1ghz so why not leave it at 4.5?its a bit surprising you need to push the vcore so high.

You have to becareful when overclocking you can damange the sockets if its melting by overclocking but just to say there is no need to overclock the cpu more when thats really good amount off power to game on.

What is the safe range voltage for the fx 8350? Also,I will be trying FSB oc later and I want to know if fsb overclocking requires same voltage or less volate for the same oc frequency.I understand that with fsb oc even nb and ram is getting overclocked. So,i would need to increase the cpunb voltage too which can increase the cpu temperature.I am using a deepcool 240mm aio with 4x noctua f12 3000 rpm fan in push /pull .

general concensus is max 1.55v so you are technically ok.i would stay away from fsb oc as you wont gain an appreciable amount of performance over what you have now.on my fx6300 i just bumped the multiplier until it crashed and then increased the voltage to the cpu until it was stable.also disable turbo boost and cool and quiet, although when i got my noctua nh-d14 cooler i enabled it again.another problem with fsb oc is your ram will overclock as well opening new problems.as long as your temp is good and its stable i would leave it alone.
