Dedicated and Integrated

Is it true that integrated graphic card (intel hd graphic, etc) and dedicated graphic card (nvidia or radeon) are totally separated?

I was told to use only one of it. How if I plug into both of it? Is it going to work?

Solution

You cannot. It doesn't work that way. If you want to boost gaming performance of your computer, you'll either have to do some overclocking (if compatible) or upgrade your components. You can't plug one HDMI into your motherboard and one into your GPU with the expectation that will work. Sorry!
Why would you want to use both? The GPU can easily support multi monitor setups. Even if one is a 3d application and the other is 2d. Since integrated graphics on the CPU can really only support 2d specs (3d applications will be cut way down on iGPU), then there is really not point in wanting to use the iGPU and the GPU.

When I only plug to dedicated, I cannot find my Intel Graphic Setting and when I only plug to integrated, I cannot access my nvidia control panel.

However, I also tried to plug both integrated and dedicated GPU previously. after that, I can find and access my Intel Graphic Setting but then it will stop working immediately (the application keeps lagging). Is that normal?

Does it mean I should not (or cannot) use both at the same time?

You cannot use both at the same time. When you are plugged into a dedicated graphics card, your cpu completely stops outputting data to the integrated chip. Hence the reason you can't find the control panel. Are you trying to squeeze extra performance out of your system, or did you add another monitor that you dedicated card doesn't have an output for (VGA/DVI/a second HDMI)? If the latter is the case, spend the $10 on amazon and buy an adapter.
