I am trying to build a gaming computer for a 12 year old. He has about 800$ to spend without the monitors. Someone recommended me these parts. Can some let me know if all of these components will work together and if there is anything better with about the same price?

Case: Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-02 Mid Tower Gaming Case

MotherBoard: Gigabyte B360M DS3H

Processor: Intel i5 8400

Video Card: Zotac GTX 1060 AMP Edition

Power Supply:EVGA 500 BQ, 80+ BRONZE 500W, Semi Modular, FDB Fan, 3 Year Warranty, Power Supply 110-BQ-0500-K1

Memory: Kingston Technology HyperX FURY 2666MHz DDR4 Non-ECC CL15 DIMM 8GB DDR4 2666 MT/s (PC4-21300) HX426C15FBK2/8Hard Drive: WD Blue 1TB SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch Desktop Hard Drive (WD10EZEX)

Hard Drive: WD Blue 1TB SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch Desktop Hard Drive (WD10EZEX)

Thanks in advance.

I agree with the SSD. It wont give better fps, but it will drastically speed up boot and load times. Any system that cost more than a few hundred dollars really has to have a SSD. Even if it is a small for just the OS.

I would also go with a different PSU. EVGA makes some good PSUs, but the BQ is not very good.

I would go with this, it is $50 overbudget, but includes a better PSU and a Samsung 860 EVO. I also went with a Phanteks case, it is better than the Corsair Spec 02.

There is a big difference between the 1060 6gb and the 1050. The 1060 will get 60% more fps. I would not advise getting a 1050 right now. It is a budget card that is a couple years old. It will begin to show its age. It has been awhile since we have had a next gen GPU, so if I were buying a card today, I would not go lower than a 1060/580.

$10 over budget

3gb -> 6gb price increase on 1060 is about $80 (36%) for an 8% increase in performance. $80 towards ssd would make the overall experience better. A lot of games are optimized for average gpu ram, which isn't going to be a lot. If you want to run everything ultra high then budget builds aren't suitable. The speed at which it renders is far more important then having a large amount of ram to cache renders. The jump from the 4G 1050 to the 3G 1060 is worth it.

Maybe where you live pricing is a little different, but on pcpartpticker in the US there is only a $40 dollar difference between the cheapest 3gb and the cheapest 6gb.

That's probably worth it. Just a few weeks ago no 6GB models were below $300. I've seen the 3GB @ $200 recently. When they were brand new they were $180. If everything is dropping they may go down.

edit: just checked now and I don't see any near that price.
