Hi

i am currently buying parts for my first pc build and am up to getting the graphics card, I bought a ASUS ROG STRIX X370-F Gaming Motherboard AM4 and ryzen 7 1800x cpu and im curious as to the compatibility of the graphics card and what will work best, using pcpartpicker i choose a nvidia graphics card and im not sure if this will work or any issues it may cause.

thanks

A GTX 1070 should be the bare minimum if gaming on a 144Hz panel, with the exception that CSGO and other Esport Tiltes are your main concern.
I also game on 120Hertz Screen.
120/144hz screens are awesome, however to benefit the most out of them your FPS(frames per second) need to match your refresh rate. That means you need to hit 144Frames per second. Even a Gtx 1070 will struggle hitting those fps on 1080P. You will hit 100fps depending on the titles, and will hit those frame rates on older titles, however I would recommend a GTX 1080. It all comes down to the games you will be playing

U wont have any problems pairing amd cpu and nvidia gpu, if i correctly understood your question. If you go with nvidia, pick either 1060 6gb or 1070 8gb( idk what is your budget) and if you want to go with radeon take vega 56, which is not good option just because of price
Edit: or go with rx 580, if your buget is lower and u can find it for normal price

Asus - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB ROG STRIX or ASUS Radeon STRIX RX 580 TOP Edition 8GB is the card i originally planned on using if this works, wasnt sure which to choose because of compatibility and performance

at the moment 1920x1080 60hertz

Since you're aiming on 144hz++ you will definitely need 1080/ti. If you are fine with 60fps, rx580/1060 is perfect option(prefer 580). And dont go with vega 64, i dont think it is really better than 1080.

ok this may sound like a stupid question but why are there amd and nvidia graphics cards made from other brands when either are compatible?
