I have been using a Gigabyte GTX 1080 D5x 8G in my pc for a while now. i have the option of buying an unused Gigabyte Gtx 1080 G1 Gaming 8G. Am i able to run both of these in sli or is it better to sell one?

Solution
may i ask why you would like to upgrade it? does it not able to produce fps ?
you can certainly put these two in sli, given that your motherboard, psu, case support it.

however, i don't think sli is worth the effort unless you decides to go 4k.

i would say, keep the money, invest it in some stock and waiting for the next gen card.

Yes you could run them in SLI. However many modern games have very poor or no SLI support at all and it looks like that trend will only continue, I would not recommend investing in a SLI system in 2018 unless you have a specific game in mind that makes good use of 2 GPU's.

Going from one 1080 to another wont do much for you, they will perform the same. The difference will be in cooling and PCB components. In my opinion that is just a waste of money.

Thank you for getting back so quick. I wasn’t looking to upgrade. Someone I know deals in overstock and came across one cheap. It got me thinking about sli which might help me be able to skip a generation. But there is noth wrong with my 1080 and it’s still a good card so I might as well stick with it.
