Installing Windows 7 Pro on an MB designed for Windows 10

I purchased an ASUS LGA1151 (300 series)(Prime B360M-A) and populated it with an Intel Core i3-8100 CPU. I installed Windows 10 but absolutely hate 10. This is a computer dedicated to controlling a Home Theater operation, and a 7 based computer works just fine in Theater Room 1.

On my son's suggestion, I got this MB/CPU combo, as everything is built into the CPU....no Graphics card needed.

So...After deciding Windows 10 had to die, i called ASUS to inquire about the drivers I would need to run that board/CPU combo under Windows 7.

I was immediately told, 7 won't work on that board or that chip.

Soooooooooooo!!

My question here is: Is that ASUS statement true, or can I throw 7 on and enjoy life as I want it in the 2nd Theater room?

Many thanks!

It is true in your case, unfortunately. It would work but you would need a dedicated GPU, there are no windows 7 drivers for the iGPU built into your coffee lake CPU.

What is your issue with win 10? Compatibility issues with your home theater system?

i am sure they would be able to find a graphics driver for it but as for chipset and USB drivers those would be harder to find plus microsoft is blocking updates for windows 7 and 8 PC's running modern CPU's so the PC will be more of a security risk.

I found windows 10 better as a home theater PC OS because of the full screen start menu option.

Biggest issue with 10? It will not allow me to proper 'shrink' the desktop to fit the 65" LG 3D, HD, LCD TV. My upstairs box, with an 1150 cpu and an ASUS MB and ASUS/Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB graphics card, *does* allow me to resize just fine. (Same TV in both locations)

i wonder what would happen If I just bout another GTX graphics card and used it, and them reformat the drive and install 7 pro. A waste of the CPU, I know, but..from a dollars and cents point of view, probably the cheapest way to go.

BTW, thanks for the quick reply. I always appreciate timely responses.

Again...Thank you!

Not connected to the outside world, so security is not an issue!

thats not a windows problem, that's a problem with your TV not being PC friendly. the only way around it is to go into the intel graphics driver settings and scale the screen to fit

The 1050 ti and it's scaler is what fit's the image to screen properly using the other PC not win 7. If you are using an iGPU the image will not be scaled using the iGPU, it will be scaled using the TV's scaler which seems to be doing a bad job of scaling the desktop to your screen. Look for a setting in the TV called maybe "PC Mode" on my toshiba TV it is called "native mode" unless that is enabled my tv does not fit my screen properly either.
