This may sound weird, but I still do not have an SSD in my system... Now I want to pick one up to experience the speed, snappiness and start up times. I'm looking at getting the Samsung EVO 970 NVMe M.2. My motherboard does have an M.2 slot but (nooby question) I want to know if it is compatible..? I know that it would fit in the mobo slot and work and all but I want to know if my motherboard would "bottleneck" the SSD and not let it reach the maximum speed. My mobo is the ASUS Prime b350M-A.

Thanks :)

Then yes...your system can use an NVMe drive.

But...it's like the difference between...

Which CPU are you using?

---------------------------------------
AMD Ryzen™ Processors :
1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (SATA & PCIE 3.0 x 4 mode)*2
AMD 7th Generation A-series/Athlon™ Processors :
1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (SATA & PCIE 3.0 x 2 mode)*3
---------------------------------------

The real "bottleneck" with an NVMe drive is you and your specific usage.
There may be little actual difference between an expensive 970 NVMe or a traditional SATA III SSD.

Then yes...your system can use an NVMe drive.

But...it's like the difference between a Mustang Cobra (NVMe) and a Prius.
If all you do is go to the store and school (game and watch utube)....the extra speed of the Cobra does no good..
