Hi, My cpu is getting really old and outdated.. I've been thinking of upgrading to a fx 8350 because i am starting to stream and do other things, Right now i have a AMD Phenom II x6 1405T, It does the job, Its overclocked and unlocked from 4 to 6 cores, I was just wondering if upgrading to a fx 8350 would be a good idea and worth it. And would i be able to put it in my computer and have no problems.

Specs

rx 560 4gb graphics card
windows 10
12 gb ddr3 ram
msi 970 gaming motherboard

Solution
If streaming, 1600/2600 is a better choice or even 1400 if you are really on a budget.
as long as you get fast ram, ryzen will show better performance.
I wouldn't spend more money on an obsolete CPU. I would just keep what you have for now and start saving for a new AM4 Motherboard, CPU and RAM.

If you can pick up a cheap 1090T, or 1100T, it would give you a sizeable bump in performance, the FX series wouldnt. been there, done that, went back to a 1090T, which happily runs 24/7 at 3.7GHz and totally outclasses the FX6300 I had, which was OC'ed to 5.1GHZ.

8 cores will give you a boost over the 1045T at productivity suites and multi-tasking, but will be worse at gaming, as you cannot overclock the cores as far as the fx4 or fx6 series, and as I said, they are really bad at what they do.

Ditto the "A" series, which is just a fx series with a built in gfx module.

If you cannot pick up a cheap 1090 or 1100, start saving up for the jump to Ryzen.

The problem is AMD cut half the on die caches and memory channels, so one memory cache is shared between two cores - and it just doesnt work when the cpu is under stress.

Thanks everyone for the quick response, I don't have a lot of money to drop on getting a new system, And that is what worries me. I was hoping to spend just under 200$ for a upgrade since i just upgraded my graphics card and that cost 250$ I've heard alot of people say getting a ryzen would be better, But where i live i would need to spend almost 500$ to get a b350, And a ryzen 7 1700. They are not cheap in canada. I am not worried about ram as a friend of mine said they would give me 12 gbs of ddr4 for free if i did upgrade so.

Also do remember, I would like to keep 6 cores, Or more. Downgrading to 4 cores would hurt me. And thats a issue with ryzen, As with ryzen getting a 8 core cpu is around 400-500$ I do not have the budget for that.

slow 100 cores is still performing worse than 4 core faster cpu for gaming.

Thanks for putting together that list of parts. I will take a closer look into that motherboard and what not, As for the 1200. I like it, It seems well done and for that price its really good. But that video is not right, Hes using way different ram. You would need to find a better video to prove it. Look at the likes and dislikes. Yes i am going to be streaming more.

I'm looking at the ryzen 5 1600, 6 cores.. Somewhat on my budget. I'm liking it so far. Would you recommend me getting a 1600? Would it work well with my rx 560 4gb?

Clockspeed counts for a lot with the Phenom II and FX processors. So you'd want to 'upgrade' to a highly clocked FX CPU or one that can be overclocked really high. Even then it's a very questionable upgrade.

For one thing, your GPU is a 560. So in many games your 1080p performance will be GPU limited. Let's say an FX CPU gave you a 20% boost in performance, that's a CPU boost only. And that's just for gaming, steaming puts even more of a demand on your system.

About the cheapest way I think you could do an upgrade is to pick up a pre-built with a Sandy Bridge i7. It needs to be an upgrade friendly pre-built, like a Dell Optiplex. Then you install your ram and videocard and power supply and storage into it. There are downsides, like not being able to use your own case, but you'd have all the CPU that your 560 can handle.

As i think that would be a good idea, I rather stay with AMD, I've had my tries with intel and i dont like them as much as AMD, Ryzens are cheap and they work really really well, They push as much as they can. So i would rather stay with AMD. I tihnk having a rx 560 will do fine with a ryzen 5 1600, But im not to sure yet. I'm not planning on upgrading to 1080p either haha, Im still gaming at 900p Might upgrade to a 1080p monitor soon though, Not sure.
