My issue started yesterday when my Seagate 2TB Internal SATA HDD just disappeared from Explorer while the PC was running. Initially, I tried to check Disk Management but it took a long time connecting to the Virtual Disk service. I checked BIOS and it wasn't on the list of storage devices. I thought it was a faulty SATA cable so I replaced it. After that both the BIOS and Windows can see the drive but it still doesn't show up however Windows keeps trying to install the drivers for it but that doesn't solve the issue. I managed to get into Disk Management properly and it says that it has found the HDD but needs to initialize it prompting me to select between Master Boot Record and another option. I noticed that it only shows 250 GB instead of the full 2TB I chose MBR and continued. After a few moments it gives me an error message:
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
After some investigation online I thought that perhaps it was a power issue. I changed the power cable to a different one. No change.
I have a lot of data on this HDD. Is there any solution to this or at the very least a way to recover the files .
The OS is Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 bit.

Hello Andarthiel, this error you received, means there is a HW error with the drive. We do offer a recovery service or you may choose one of your liking. There are also several software's out there that may help you as well. Did you have any backups? If not it is a good idea to create one for the future.

The conventional wisdom by tech experts on backups is known as the 3-2-1 method.

Basically you want:

3 copies of any data you don't want to lose
2 different mediums it's stored on (so 2 different drives in your computer, for example)
1 copy kept offsite, to prevent against disaster.

Best of luck.
