8 pin slot for the cpu doesn't work anymore, the pc wont start, instantly turns off. Need to replace with new motherboard and cpu combo. We need a pair that runs well with a Geforce 1080, and we are on a budget. Not looking for top of the line.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you

If you are on a budget then look at an AMD Ryzen 2xxx series.
To do justice to your GPU you should look at the 2600 or 2700.

The advantage of AMD is that they include a decent CPU cooler.

Alternately you can shop for second hand parts i5 or i7.

Third option if you are not into high performance gaming is to sell the1080 GPU and use that to fund a more modest and balanced pc.

It all depends on what you want to achieve:
1) in the short term
2) long term as more money becomes available

I'd like to stick with intel if possible, with a mobo that goes with it. A budget of around 500-600 or so, long term is ideal. I'd rather not sell the 1080, as I recently got it. I may also need a new psu as I'm worried that is what fried the mobo.

ron2456 has a good pick on the parts but the only thing I would change is to a i5-8400 if budget is tight as you can pick that up for $170. The 8400 is a very good gaming CPU with 6 cores and 6 threads and you should be able to pick up motherboard, RAM and 8400 for less than $420....Leaving you just enough for a CPU cooler and Power Supply in your budget..Though the power supply from your old system should still be enough, especially if it is already powering a 1080...PS the 1080 GTX will get the best out of the 8400!
