[SOLVED] Is this a safe Overclock? AMD A8-5600k

Hey guys I was having some pretty bad freezing/stuttering issues in Fortnite even though I have over the minimum specs and the auto-detect game settings set them all to high but couldnt play at high due to freezing.

So I decided to overclock my AMD A8-5600k, the multiplier is at x41 (4.1ghz) and the voltage is set at 1.4250.

IDK anything about OC'ing I kinda just winged it. I played Fortnite after the overclock and it solved the freezing issue almost completely! And I was able to up the graphics higher with no freezing as well! I played for about 5 hours and did a 20 min stress test using AMD OD and I never seen the margin go below 15 degrees C.

So would it be safe to say that this is a stable overclock or is my voltages to low?

Should I try for more?

Look in Windows Event Viewer after the pc crashes. Look for critical errors. That'll be a clue as to where to start. Fortnite isn't all that demanding on a cpu, your stock settings shouldn't result in stutters/freezes. That's most usually a driver issue, but can be a ram issue.

I see we've already been there...

Well its not stable at all to be honest. I stress tested using AMD Overdrive for 20 min with no issues and stopped it. I played about 5 hours of fortnite (n was able to raise the graphic settings along with no more freezing issues). I went to sleep, woke up went to work, came home. Was selling items on Rocket League using chrome with the game open and got a random restart..

After the restart I went back into AMD Overdrive n raised the voltage by 1 notch. Continued.

About 20 minutes later another restart just doing normal stuff without a game open.

Im using stock cooler so obviously temps will be an issue, however when playing the game the temps never go below 20 degrees C thermal margin (meaning I should still have room for any throttling). However HW Monitor says I got as high as 104 degrees celcius but I heard AMD Overdrive is best for AMD CPU's at load, typically I have a 60 degree thermal margin at idle and about 20 degrees thermal margin under 72% load which is what the game Fortnite uses on my processor.

I have not messed with any RAM timings and I did this using AMD Overdrive but then I started using the BIOS.

I had many restarts with having to reset the BIOS via tripping the CMOS.

Today I decided to try uppping the bus frequency from 100mhz to 105mhz, n was stable for about 2 hours. It gave me a 4.080 (or so) clock with a 39x multiplier which is the stock boost at 3.9 mhz Turbo Boost. I didnt up any voltage.

After the restart I took the bus to 102mhz. System wouldnt start so I reverted back to 100mhz after resetting CMOS.

I fiddled with some different frequencies and voltages with no success on AMD Overdrive stability tests (I know I should be using prime95 but this sytems on its way out anyways just looking for as much juice as possible for a couple months)

With this CPU I MUST be at 4.1mhz to get the performance increase I need but I think my PSU is dying. About a year ago it would make a super loud grinding noise about every 10 hours. I used to have to hit the back top of the system to get it to calm down. Trust me I know its terrible but I had no choice at the time and still dont and is why Im saving for a new PC now. I have 500$ and Im sure I could buy something with this 500$ thats way more reliable but I want at least a 1050ti so Im thinking more lik 800$ for a nice reliable system as Im tired of this budget ripoff.

So with all that said, if anyone took the time to read, does it sound like a PSU issue? Or could I just not being a good enough overclock? My pc specs are in the main thread. I do not know what the PSU is because the sticker fell off and I threw it out like 2 years ago lol. Im pretty sure it was a 400w, Seasonic but that could be the wrong name.

DDR3 is cheap enough, you can get 16Gb on ebay for $20 or less. I'd go that route before pushing any OC on a stock cooler.

I've been monitoring my pc while playing fortnite using msi afterburner and i can say that my cpu is bottlenecking mi gpu. For instance, while playing my gpu is only at 70 or less % and at the same time my cpu is working at its 100%. That's the reason i'm looking for overclocking mi cpu. I also monitored my ram usage and i dont think is an issue.
