How do I hook up a turntable to Yamaha HTR-5940 receiver?

Same as heading. Don't find any instructions in the owners manual or see any inputs on this receiver (Yamaha HTR-5940) to hook up a turntable. Can it be done & how?

OK, there are two switches on the back of the turntable that you have to get correct first. See PDF page 4 in the user's manual -- https://www.audio-technica.com/cms/resource_library/literature/1563d8da58a1d3e5/at_lp3_om.pdf You want to make sure #12 is set to "LINE" You need to set #13 based on the type of cartridge you are using.

Where you hook up the turntable on the amp will depend on what else you have hooked up. But I would use the "CD" in or the "MD" in. Both of which are on the top of the input ports. Then you should be able to select "CD" or "MD" input on the amp and your turntable should work.

It will depend on the turntable. Some newer turntables have the necessary amp build-in and provide line level outputs. You can connect them to any of the red/white RCA inputs. If you have an older turntable with out the necessary phono preamp, then you would have to buy a standalone phono preamp. Search amazon for "phono preamp" to get a list of options.

My turntable is a new Audio-Technica AT-LP3 with a built-in phono/line pre-amp & its plugged into the receivers red/white audio input jacks but no sound is coming through the receiver into the speakers..
In the manual for the receiver under "Enjoying pure hi-fi stereo sound" the instructions are to "set the component selector switch to AMP" but I don't find this switch anywhere on the unit. note: the switch is supposed to have 3 settings; TV, Source & AMP
Do you have any idea's on this or do you think this is even an issue?
