How does SLI scale in 2018?

I remember before, SLI was always something you should avoid as it rarely scales well in games, though certain games seem to love it. Is this still the case? Looking for 1070 Ti SLI with an ASRock SLI Killer (Z370)

Support for sli continues to drop, nothing has changed. Hit and miss with some games will leave you thinking could have got a single 1080Ti.
