So dumbxxx me tried overclocking my CPU today without any prior knowledge of CPU overclocking apart from GPU OC-ing. I have a Ryzen 5 1500X and I first pushed it to 3.7GHz which was the max as specified on Ryzen's site. Then I saw someone push it over 4.0GHz and I tried to follow, I think I added put too much current(?) into the CPU and my PC hung once I pressed apply in AMD's Master Utility. I force shut down after 5 minutes since it was not responsive.

I tried booting it up again and my MSI B350 Tomahawk Arctic motherboard ez debug LED lighted up for DRAM and CPU so I let it be for about 3 hours. I then re-seated the CPU but did not install the cooling fan as I was out of thermal paste and it managed to post, but it shut down again not even 1 minute after. I touched the CPU and it was piping hot and let it cool down first before I could start it up again. The furthest I got was to my home screen, before I could even open up an app it shuts down.

Is there a high chance my CPU is causing all this to happen? Could it be I friend my CPU to xxxxx? Any chance any of you could give me advice on what to do next? I'm trying to see if I can try my CPU in my pal's motherboard and see if the same thing happens as well.

My set up is as follows:
AMD Ryzen 5 1500X
MSI B350 Tomahawk Arctic
Crucial DDR4 2400MHz 8GB x2
Sapphire R9 280 3GB
FSP Hyper K 600W
Samsung 850EVO 500GB (Boot drive and app storage)
WD Green 3TB (Media Storage)
WD Blue 500GB (Media Storage)

Every computer must have an cooler ontop off the CPU to prevent it from overheating and being fried and what you are doing now is risking your CPU . Do not turn on your computer without the cooler and you can go to the stores today or tomorrow and buy some paste

Hey there guys, I put back the cooler on and it works however the max temperature(according to NZXT Cam) is 95 degrees Celcius and minimums are at 85. I just need to get thermal paste and it'll all be fine now. Thanks a bunch :)

Your welcome but do not use your computer until you place some thermal paste onto cpu because your temps are going to be still same until you put some on!
