GTX 660 requirements

I have following specs:
2x Intel xeon x5560 @2.80ghz
8gb ram
500gb samsung hard drive
1060W lenovo psu..

I was wondering will my psu run gtx 660 or I have to connecy an external cable from psu to the gpu

The GTX 660 requires 1 x 6-pin power cord from the PSU.

You might be okay with a molex 6-pin adapter cable since there's plenty of wattage available:

Just curious, are you buying the gtx 660 or do you already have it?

No. If that's your problem, why don't you just pick up a GTX 750 ti or GTX 1050? They'll be roughly the same speed or faster and consume a lot less power, you won't need a power adapter anyways.

I would get the 660, but you'll need a 6pin pci-e power connector or it wont work. Most of the 750 ti models didnt have a power connection.
