Hello everyone,

I was playing GTA V last night and noticed my frame rates dipping, and also noticed that two of my four cores were at 100% load, and the others around 25%.

I tried restarting the computer, went to task manager and enabled all 4 processors, I reinstalled GTA V, and nothing has worked.

I tried other games to see if I would have the same issues, and upon booting up The Forest, it ran perfectly fine with equal loads across all four cores.

I am wondering what I can do about this so I can have GTA V playable again.

Thank you

Solution

Yes, it will have similar effect, but a reset will use files on your computer which might be corrupted.
Try the reset and see if it solves the issue. When you reset you will have two option:
'Keep my files' or 'Remove everything'

My PC is
Ryzen 3 1200 O.C to 3.6ghz
GTX 1050 ti
MSI Tomahawk motherboard
8gb DDR4 2400mhz
1tb WD Blue

My Temperatures: (Keep in mind the only game I have problems with are GTA V

CPU Temp peaked at around 44 degrees C with the usage on cores 1&4 nearly maxed, and cores 2&3 at around 15-25% usage.

Also, I don't believe there are any APU drivers to install since it isn't an APU, but I may be wrong.

I just brought it up to 1.3 and restarted my computer. I checked again to make sure it was at 1.3 and then booted up GTA V again, but the issue still persists with core 1&4 being 100% load with the others around 15-25.

How many FPS are you getting in GTA V?

Before I had this issue, I would mostly be at about 65 and would sometimes dip to about 55.

However, after this issue, the fps is not consistent, ranging from 35-62 fps

Is this at the same place in the game?
Because basically this is the difference in FPS between city center and outside of the city.

Also GTA V is one of those games that will not fill up 4 cores,it runs 3 threads to 100% which means ~75% all over for your quad core CPU.

Prior to this problem, I would get about 55 fps in the city, now I get about 35 fps in the city. Before this, the game used all cores at around 75% I believe, but only two cores seem to be being used to their fullest potential now

I had a friend with similar issue and it was caused by a Windows update.
He used system restore to fix the issue.

Can you walk me through that process? I tried to look it up on YouTube, but there are no restore points for me to go to because I haven't used restore point before

Right click 'This PC' then click 'System protection' then click the 'System restore' button and click 'Next'.
Select a 'Restore Point' before the issue started and click 'next. You could check 'Show more restore points' to see a longer list of choices.
Follow the on-screen instructions.

When I click system restore it says no restore points have been created on my system

By default, 'System Restore' it’s turned on, so if the 'System Restore' points are missing, then 'System Restore' was turned off manually. If you turn off 'System Restore', all previous points created are deleted.

If 'System Restore' is on and it doesn't work then it could be a sign of serious Windows problems.
If it is on try 'System Restore' in Safe Mode.

I just checked again and system restore does work, but doesn't go back far enough to fix the problem I'm having

I was going to simply reset my entire computer to factory settings. Would that have similar effects?
