I have an old Lenovo computer it has a Pentium R Dual-Core CPU E6600 @ 3.06GhZ

I think is close to this model

https://www.cnet.com/products/lenovo-thinkcentre-m58-7244-p-e6600-3-06-ghz-monitor-none-series/specs/

If I want to make it run faster, what CPU can I buy that motherboard will support?
Thank you for the advice.

You could try, but I don't think that such a weak CPU an small RAM will make it for many users. Light usage for a couple of clients could be the case.

I'm afraid that a CPU upgrade wouldn't be enough to speed up your system. It has 2GB of RAM and many other limiting factors. It is not worth investing in such an old CPU socket anyway, so I'd suggest getting a new CPU-RAM-MB combo.
Just to mention though, I think that you system would accept a Core 2 Quad Q9650 (assumption).

The board will take 16GB of DDR3 RAM, and probably a quad core Xeon, so a nifty little system for anything short of games; and even then, with a half decent gfx card......

You are not going to play the latest games on it without spending £100 minimum on a gfx card, but for general PC uses it is still fine; £50 will get some bigger RAM, and £25 for a 2nd hand Xeon X3360* and new cooler for it.

A new system to beat that would cost £300 +

*Intel lists this as compatible with the chipset used by the Lenovo.
