This might be in the running for one of the dumbest questions on this forum, but I have a 2x4 set of RAM, and I was wondering if it would work if I add one stick of 8GB RAM to upgrade to 16 GB, or would I have to use another set of 2x4?
Yes it will work, however it will not work in dual channel mode.
You would be better off getting a pair of 4GB that match your current ones, or better still a pair of 8GB sticks so that you can run in dual channel mode.
Unless you are really pushing against performance limits, though you won't notice the difference.
Also I assume that you have 4 RAM slots on your motherboard (some only have 2).

Thank you for your answer!!! And yes, I do have 4 RAM slots. I was afraid I'd get made fun of for a question like this one
