Hi, I want to upgrade my PC; specifically, I want to upgrade my CPU from an AMD FX-4130 to an Intel Core i5-8400 (https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i5-8400-Desktop-Processor-BX80684i58400/dp/B0759FGJ3Q) and my GPU from Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 to a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 (https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Windforce-Graphics-GV-N1060WF2OC-3GD/dp/B01KQUDE2Y). However, I'm wondering what type of motherboard I would need to purchase that fits in my case and would be compatible with the two parts.

I bought a pre-built computer years ago and I've been using the same case (https://www.amazon.com/CybertronPC-Borg-Q-Gaming-Desktop-Discontinued/dp/B00GFG1B1A) and the motherboard that came with it (GA-78LMT-USB3 (Socket M2) motherboard). For reference (if needed), the case is 19.5 x 7.8 x 17.5 inches and the motherboard is a micro ATX type and 9.6 x 9.6 inches.

Also, my PSU is 650 watts, in case this is needed too.

Basically, I'm wondering what type of motherboard I should purchase. Suggestions concerning anything else I typed are welcomed and I apologize if this ends up being a dumb and/or vague question.

I don't consider myself an expert, but I went through something similar the other day. Upgraded my wife's computer from amd to intel. A couple of things to remember are 1. the type of memory for the new cpu and board might not be the same 2. you will probably have issues trying to use the same license for windows 3. (in my opinion) any new motherboard that includes an adapter for those tiny case power switch/ power light/ etc. is going to be well worth the price difference in headache avoidance.

And from the picture on Amazon, it looks like you could actually use a regular ATX board, but to be safe I would just stick with the micro ones unless you really need more room for other upgrades.

and this article pretty well summed up my experience and might help you too. https://kotaku.com/the-10-worst-things-about-building-a-new-gaming-pc-1606794540
