GPU Way too hot

So I'm running a VTX3D R9 280 X-edition(not 280X) and it started a couple months back when i started up Eurotruck Simulator 2. When i got to the menu my GPU started going crazy and according to CPUID HWMonitor hit 99C so i panicked and quit the game.

I got the card in a prebuilt a few years ago and thought it was time to change the thermal paste. took it off, put it on, blah blah blah and that reduced the temps a little so it doesn't get over 82ish.

Today however i started up Fortnite and in the menu it went straight to 100% usage and 93C so obviously i tried to stay out of the menu as much as possible. V-Sync is on and Fortnite is capped at 60fps within the game menu's too.

So what im asking is, is there a way for me to reduce the stupidly unnecessary effort that my GPU is putting in to load a menu?

If you haven't done it already, set a custom fan curve so that it ramps up fan speeds higher than the stock settings. You can do this with MSI Afterburner. If you've already created a custom fan curve, your fan could be dying. I had to put an aftermarket cooler on my 980ti because my fans could no longer keep my GPU cool.

say its not the fans, should my GPU be running at 90% loading a menu and creating so much heat anyway?

the problem is not on the fan nor the fan curve, PUBG has the same issue. unless

EPIC games changed the engine so that menu renders differently
or Nvidia/AMD come up with a software solution in their drivers,

There is nothing much we can do. just avoid being in the menu for long or turn on V-sync
