I was just wondering which matx motherboard would be best for beginner overclocking as i am planning to overclock with a i5 8600k and already have a nh-12s for cooling.

Solution
There isn't a specific mobo that's good for newbie overclocking, it's either good for overclocking or not.

I recommend you start out with a Z370-A (prime series). I've been using Asus motherboards for years, and you can use their AI Suite 3 to learn the ropes of overclocking, that is how i started. I used Ai Suite 3 to overclock my CPU to learn about CPU overclocking, then i went in and reduced the voltage manually.

Solution
For overclocking and help, Asus and Asrock forums seem to be the most helpful.
I ordered a Asus ROG STRIX Z370G for my I5-8600K.

For whatever reason, it would not load windows.
It could run memtest86 just fine. Go figure.
I had to return it.
Very nice construction, definitely upscale.
Some LED "bling" which means nothing to me.

I ended up with a Asrock Z370M Pro4

A very basic board with no "bling" which worked just fine.

I have it running at 4.7 with no effort; I know it can go higher, but why bother??

I had a need for M-ATX for a depth limited case. I think you give up nothing with M-ATX.
