Drive information doesn't match drive! WD Black

I have a 640GB WD Black drive which is model WD6402AAEX. For some unknown reason the system reports it as being a WD5000AZRX, which is a WD Green drive.

Has anybody come across this before? I should add that Speedfan sees it as the correct model, but Speccy and Windows don't. I wondered initially if at some point the PCB might have been changed, but obviously a PCB from the complete different series of drive wouldn't work.

Go to wdc.com and register the serial number. See what it says.

I removed it from a Dell Vostro 400 mini tower, but it definitely didn't come from the factory with that drive. I've had a few black drives over the years, but never come across this model. 640GB and its SATA 3.

Ok I've entered all details onto the WD product registration page and it is indeed showing as a WD6402AAEX 640GB drive. So I have absolutely no idea why different programs show different information.

I've not actually checked in the BIOS, generally after installing any hardware I check in that before booting an OS.

See this picture here https://www.flickr.com/photos/151467560@N07/41880841865/in/dateposted-public/, now I'm wondering why two drives are showing as IDE?? I'm wondering if it's just the age of the WD software causing that.

its an OEM drive from dell so it may be a drive manufactured specifically for dell which may explain why you are not able to get a definite answer on what kind of drive it is.

odds are its a generic western digital drive that doesn't go by the same naming scheme as its official retail drives

This drive did not come with the Vostro 400 from the factory, as it was manufactured about 3 years later. I'm thinking it's more of an issue with this particular computer, and whether or not it's relate, I've had a WD5000AZRX drive connected before, so who knows! On the plus side it functions just fine.
