Hello my friends ! I have this HDD for a long time (approximately 5 - 6 years ) :
931GB SAMSUNG HD103SJ SCSI Disk Device (SATA )
Lately it started producing some kind of strange noises when starting the windows up and when opening files / tabs , like the one ps1,ps2 or first xbox would produce when spinning the disk. This is some kind of scratching noise, I tried to find the same noise on the internet but could not. The system seems to run slower too , although on a lot of apps(Seatools , Crystaldisk) , which they say check the health of my hdd , it seems my storage is completely fine. Should I consider buying a new one or is there a chance my windows or files on my system are causing this noises/slowliness. Thank you very much in advance, feel free to ask me anything

Any cheap alternatives I can replace it? Or is it wise to get this HDD to a technician who can repair it?

Hello khmaladzelasha, does the sound your HDD make is on the this list? Like previously suggested, a back up plan is essential.

The conventional wisdom by tech experts on backups is known as the 3-2-1 method.

Basically you want:

3 copies of any data you don't want to lose
2 different mediums it's stored on (so 2 different drives in your computer, for example)
1 copy kept offsite, to prevent against disaster.

Before spending money, have you checked it for fragmentation?? I think CrystalDiskInfo shows this; if not download Defragler.

If it is badly fragmented, what you are hearing could be the heads zipping back and forth to read all the file fragments.

Fujitsu 40gb desktop drive with bad media making scratching noise. <== This is the closest to the noise but less scratchy and less rhythmic , not as regular. It is quiet mostly, but after I open something ( a game for example) it starts t

What size is the drive? There is a fragmentation percentage shown, in the upper pane after the drive has been analysed and not just a total. You have to click on each drive letter and then the "Analyse" button to get the status for that drive.

Defraggler is a lot faster than the built in Windows version, and should have done more than 1% in that time.

The main display gives a Good/Bad drive status, and there is a "Health" tab that will give detailed info on the drives health, as reported by the Smart system.
